Onaga to rescind approval for U.S. base project without delay

NAHA--Okinawa Governor Takeshi Onaga is moving to initiate procedures to nullify his predecessor's approval of land reclamation work for a U.S. military base before he departs for a United Nations conference on Sept. 19.

Doing so would strip the central government of its legal basis to continue the project to relocate the U.S. Marine Corps Air Station Futenma in Ginowan to the Henoko district in Nago, both in Okinawa Prefecture. Read more.
