Turkey strikes targets in Syria's Rai town

Turkish tanks crossed into Rai on Saturday. The town is held by anti-Syria militants backed by Turkey. The incursion was launched from a new front line opened from Turkey’s Kilis province.

Ankara says its tanks are in Rai to support a new offensive. Turkey began its military operations inside Syria on August 24 with the stated goal of driving out Daesh terrorists. The operations, however, have been focused on Kurdish fighters who are battling Daesh.

Turkey says it wants to protect its border against Kurds whom it labels as terrorists. The Syrian government has strongly denounced Turkey’s incursion as a violation of its sovereignty.
