The Age of Anger

Chris Hedges - The nihilism and rage sweeping across the globe are not generated by warped ideologies or medieval religious beliefs. These destructive forces have their roots in the obliterating of social, cultural and religious traditions by modernization and the consumer society, the disastrous attempts by the United States to carry out regime change, often through coups and wars, and the utopian neoliberal ideology that has concentrated wealth in the hands of a tiny cabal of corrupt global oligarchs.

This vast, global project of social engineering during the last century persuaded hundreds of millions of people, as Pankaj Mishra writes in “The Age of Anger: A History of the Present,” “to renounce—and often scorn—a world of the past that had endured for thousands of years, and to undertake a gamble of creating modern citizens who would be secular, enlightened, cultured and heroic.” The project has been a spectacular failure. Damayan, a New York-based organization led by Filipina domestic workers, is fighting this underground crisis. Abby Martin speaks to several members of the organization about how this exodus of women has devastated a generation of families, and how they are fighting back.

The Fed wants to raise rates but inflation could stand in the way

As the Fed sets forth a fairly aggressive path toward higher interest rates, one key element could scuttle those plans.

Substantially lower-than-expected inflation would be a significant hurdle for the central bank in its quest to normalize a benchmark rate kept near zero through much of the post-financial crisis economy. The Fed has hiked the rate three times since December 2015 and economists and Wall Street strategists widely expect at least two more moves before the end of 2017. Read more + video.

Reactions to Manchester Bombing Show How Anti-Muslim Bigots Are “Useful Idiots” for ISIS

Mehdi Hasan - IF YOU WANT to defeat ISIS, listen to former ISIS hostage Nicolas Henin. The group is “heartened by every sign of overreaction, of division, of fear, of racism, of xenophobia … [and] drawn to any examples of ugliness on social media,” the French journalist wrote in November 2015 in the wake of the Paris attacks. “Central to their world view is the belief that communities cannot live together with Muslims, and every day their antennae will be tuned towards finding supporting evidence.”

Get that? Islamophobia plays right into the hands of ISIS. Wittingly or unwittingly, anti-Muslim bigots have become recruiting sergeants for a group they profess to hate and claim to want to destroy. The Islamophobes, to borrow a line from Lenin, are ISIS’s useful idiots. Read more.

Bilderberg 2017 split on Trumps future

This year’s Bilderberg conference in Chantilly, Virginia from June 1st through 4th may very well decide Donald Trumps future. Impeachment, open battle or a new modus vivendi with the establishment are all on the table.

During the campaign the big gimmick was „the man of the people“ draning the swamp, but in reality the picture is much more complex, as demonstrated by the split view on Trump amongst the members of the powerful Bilderberg group.

Some big regular names that are unhappy with Trump or neutral are Banco Santander, Evercore, the European Central Bank, Lazard, the IMF, most media like the Washington Post. But there are also movers and shakers in Bilderberg who like Trump and actucally work with him. Read more + video.

US, Israel will never allow Iran to have nuclear weapon: Trump

US President Donald Trump has said the United States and Israel will never allow Iran to have nuclear weapons, even though the Islamic Republic has already made it very clear that it has no desire or program to develop one.

“The United States and Israel can declare with one voice that Iran must never be allowed to possess a nuclear weapon - never, ever - and must cease its deadly funding, training and equipping of terrorists and militias, and it must cease immediately," Trump said after a meeting with Israeli President Reuven Rivlin in Jerusalem al-Quds on Monday. The Strategy Behind Washington’s Destabilization Of Venezuela

Venezuela represents everything that the U.S. opposes in the region: socialism, anti-imperialism, economic independence via energy exports and a viable ally for China, Russia, Iran and other countries that oppose the hegemonic designs of Washington.

NEW YORK (Analysis)– The corporate media continues to churn out endless stories detailing repression, state violence and socioeconomic collapse in Venezuela. Conspicuously absent from their stories, however, is the fact that much of the turmoil in the Bolivarian Republic is a result of an economic and psychological war being waged against the country by right-wing elements inside Venezuela and their backers in the United States.
