Lebanon discovers US-made arms left by Nusra terrorists

A Lebanese security source says the army has discovered US-made weapons in an arms cache seized from Nusra Front terrorists.

The weapons cache reportedly included TOW anti-tank missiles made by the U-S as well as surface-to-air missiles. The weapons were recovered during an operation in northern Lebanon, where the army is pushing back terrorists along the Syrian border.

It comes after Syria accused the U-S and the U-K of supplying chemical weapons to terrorists in the country. Syria’s Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad said the toxic agents found in the cities of Aleppo and Damascus were produced by British and American companies.

China's and Russia's VPN crackdown - The Listening Post

Russia and China have both recently taken action against the use of VPNs, virtual private networks. VPNs enable internet users in one country to surf the web as if they are in another.

Up until now, China has taken a selective approach to prohibiting VPN use - usually choosing to look away when people tunnelled through the "great firewall" that Beijing has put in place to regulate access to the internet. Their new approach requires the support of companies like Apple, which has obeyed an order from Beijing to remove VPN apps from its Chinese App store.

Russia has a more open internet than China, but it's just passed a new law banning VPNs and other proxy servers.

Beijing's approach is more subtle, but in both countries, the pattern is unmistakable: the powers that be are out to limit - and, in effect, decide - what you can or cannot see and do online.

To find out the government's real capabilities, and whether any of us can truly protect our sensitive information, VICE founder Shane Smith heads to Moscow to meet the man who started the conversation, Edward Snowden.

China tells ‘imperfect’ US to mind its own business over religious freedom criticism

China has blasted “wanton” criticism from the US over religious freedom, saying that Washington confuses the facts and is itself far from perfect. The statement comes following a US State Department report on religious freedom worldwide.

On Tuesday, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson commented on the 2016 International Religious Freedom Report released by the State Department. While Tillerson did not speak about China in particular, the document itself lists China among “countries of particular concern.” Read more.

On The News Line: US arming Kurds in Syria

US arming the Kurds
Reports say Syrian Kurdish forces which are backed by the United States have made significant advances against Daesh terrorists in Raqqah. The Syrian Democratic Forces – as they’re called – are believed to be close to seizing full control of the southern parts of the city – which is the defacto capital of Daesh. But that, of course, may not have been possible without the direct help of the United States.

These images show how the US army has blatantly involved itself in the war in Syria. That would sooner or later draw the criticisms of the international community. And beyond that, it is the consequences of US military deployment to Syria – not only for Syria but also for its neighbors – which is increasingly becoming a source of concern.

Pakistan politics
There’s been a major upheaval in Pakistan’s politics. The country has seen an eventful week with the top official losing his post. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was ousted on Friday by the Supreme Court over corruption allegations. The top court has ordered a criminal probe into the Sharif family.

Pakistani lawmakers have now elected a former petroleum minister to take the top job. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, a long-time ally of Nawaz Sharif. He was elevated by the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz which holds a majority. It easily got its candidate through. The new premier’s term is expected to be very short because the ruling party wants him to hold the post until Sharif's brother, Shahbaz Sharif, can take the helm.

How to farm mushrooms for Slow Food, medicine, bioremediation

Ian Garrone started Far West Fungi- out of his garage- 25 years ago to introduce America to the wide variety of edible fungi. Today, the Garrone family farm 60,000 square feet of greenhouses filled with organic, sawdust-based mushrooms. They sell over 40 different types of mushroom at their San Francisco store, a relatively rare offering, given that button mushrooms account for about 87% of all domestic mushroom sales.

Garrone believes that mushrooms can add balance to your diet, serving as an ideal meat substitute. Mushrooms that grow on trees (the type grown at the Far West Fungi farm) are also considered medicinal.

Garrone didn't get into the business to help save the world, but somehow he's managed to help save his corner of the world. After San Francisco's last oil spill he helped provide an indigenous strain of oyster mushroom to a bioremediation project. Read more.

Growing oyster mushroom mycelium at home cheap and easy - a great experiment

This is a simple way of learning how oyster mushroom mycelium can be grown, cheaply and easily using readily available supplies and non sterile techniques. Here we take a store bought oyster mushroom and cut bits off of it onto cardboard, to get mycelium running on the cardboard. This is not a method for growing mushrooms, but rather a learning experience that is helpful for future attempts to grow mushrooms.

I shot this when I was fairly new at mushroom growing and really did not know a lot, but I was excited about it. This is NOT a method I use to grow mushrooms, it is a learning exercise. Since mushrooms are the fruit of fungi and mycelium is the body of the fungal organism it is important to understand how it grows and this process will give you a good experience with it and teach you how simple it is to clone mycelium from a mushroom. I leave this video up because it remains high in the SE rankings and hopefully will lead many to learn more about growing mushrooms and mycology by watching my mushroom growing specific videos.

The low-tech methodology I am using and showing others in my youtube videos are meant to make it easy for people to understand how to grow mushrooms at home, as easily as they might grow tomatoes, onions or lettuce. Mycelium can produce foods in as little as 21 days, far faster than any other crop that can be grown, and they can digest a large variety of materials and use them for food.

Even if you don't like to eat mushrooms I believe that those who grow food must understand and use mycelium's at least for it's role in creating healthy soil. Understanding and utilizing this vital segment of living things will help us be able to produce ecosystems that work in our yards, farms and even away from Earth. Mycelium are the great material digesters in the ecosystem, working in concert with bacteria, to turn biological waste material into nutrients that plants and animals can use.

They are not plants nor animals and therefore require us to learn about them separately from the other kingdoms of living organisms. They inhale oxygen and exhale CO2, they do not reproduce the same as either plants or animals and their growth patterns and life cycles bear only a slight resemblance to either plants or animals. But once you understand them it becomes much easier to grow them and use them in your day to day life.

If you want to learn some of the basics of mushroom biology please watch:

Researcher excites UFO enthusiasts with 'unearthed alien mummies'

A number of self-proclaimed UFO researchers claimed that a recently unearthed humanoid-shaped mummy is the latest evidence of alien life on earth, in a press conference in Lima, Tuesday.

The alleged discovery involves a mummified humanoid unearthed in Peru, which, according to journalist Jaime Maussan leading the research, dates back to more than 1700 years.

Maussan said that a total of five unearthed bodies was discovered, “three of which seem to have characteristics that are closer to reptiles than to humans.”

Presenting a slide show of X-rays depicting the mummified object, Maussan shrugged off allegations of fraud.

“We are going to present preliminary evidence,” he said, adding that “if in some way it is considered that there is doubt and that this can be real, the obligation of the Peruvians first and the whole world is to preserve these bodies to find a true answer."

Terence Mckenna: Modern Society

Terence Mckenna talks about how we are somewhat misguided by our cultural values, ideologies, and general sense of what is good and bad in the world.

"We have gone sick by following a path of untrammelled rationalism, male dominance, attention to the visible surface of things, practicality, bottom-line-ism. We have gone very, very sick. And the body politic, like any body, when it feels itself to be sick, it begins to produce antibodies, or strategies for overcoming the condition of disease.

And the 20th century is an enormous effort at self-healing. Phenomena as diverse as surrealism, body piercing, psychedelic drug use, sexual permissiveness, jazz, experimental dance, rave culture, tattooing, the list is endless."

Thousands gather at anti-Govt. rally in London

Thousands of Britons have gathered in central London to call for the resignation of Prime Minister Theresa May. The demonstrators protest against the government’s commitment to austerity cuts and privatization.

Organizers say the march is a show of solidarity and strength and a demand for decent public services, more jobs and better living standards. Opposition labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn, is set to give a speech at the rally. Several prominent politicians and union leaders will also join the march at Parliament Square.

Pressure has mounted on the British premier to step down following her coalition deal with the Northern Ireland’s Democratic Unionist Party and a string of terror attacks in the U-K.

Global Debt Hits A New Record High Of $217 Trillion; 327% Of GDP

The Institute of International Finance is perhaps best known for its periodic - and concerning - reports summarizing global leverage statistics, and its latest Q1 report was the most troubling yet, because what it found was that in a period of so-called "coordinated growth", global debt hit a new all time high of $217 trillion, or over 327% of global GDP, up $50 trillion over the past decade. So much for Ray Dalio's beautiful deleveraging, oh and for those economists who are still confused why r-star remains near 0%, the chart below has all the answers.

Not surprisingly, China continues to be the biggest source of global debt growth, with the country's total debt load now surpassing 300%. Read more.

Global leadership part of Washington’s DNA, while Russia has been ‘defender & advocate’ – Kissinger

Global leadership is part of US foreign policy DNA, according to former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, while Russia has previously positioned itself as “defender and advocate” of a world order based on religion, and then on Marxist principles.

Speaking alongside Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at the Primakov Readings International Forum on Friday, Kissinger said that “the idea of global leadership is almost part of the American foreign policy DNA,” adding that the US has positioned itself not simply as a leader, but as “the leader.” Read more.
