No Democracy Without Press Freedom

In a war or conflict, independent journalism is often the first victim. Media are manipulated, journalists are prosecuted, ousted by violent means or murdered. In scores of places across the globe, the local population does not know what is going on, neither in the world nor in their own country.

Press Now works to promote the development of independent media in those areas where they are needed most. In conflict areas, in countries with repressive regimes and in countries that are en route to a democracy.

Press Now organized the Night of the Press Freedom in May 2010. Several international journalists told about their experiences back home. Frenk van der Linden was the host of the evening. Guests: Wilf Mbanga (The Zimbabwean), Solomon Abera (Eritrean journalist) and many others.
