US airstrike kills at least 3 people in Afghanistan's Maidan Wardak province

A US airstrike has killed three people in Afghanistan's eastern Maidan Wardak province. The US military has confirmed the overnight attack, claiming it targeted Taliban militants.

US drone strikes have been a major source of tension between Kabul and Washington. Afghan President Hamid Karzai has repeatedly questioned the legality of the US drone strikes. Kabul is demanding an immediate end to the airstrikes before signing a bilateral security deal with Washington.

The deal will allow the US military to remain in the country beyond the 20-14 deadline. The United States carried out over 500 drone attacks in Afghanistan last year.
