UN: Waterborne diseases threaten Damascus kids

UNICEF said children are bearing the brunt of the sabotage of the city's main water supplies

Damascus, which is home to nearly five-point-five million people, has been deprived of running water for two weeks. In a letter to the U-N, the Syrian Foreign Ministry has accused Nusra Front terrorists of destroying the main water pump and polluting the water with diesel.

The U-N has confirmed the deliberate targeting of the water sources in Damascus, but has not stated who was responsible. On Thursday, the humanitarian adviser to the U-N Syria envoy, Jan Egeland, said that denying people water or deliberately sabotaging water supplies is a war crime.

The World Health Organization says the repairs would take four days or more.
