The Clintons’ Neoliberal Dystopian Ties to Russia’s Billionaires

The intricate web of the world’s most powerful people and corporations is troublesome for democracy

Bill and Hillary Clinton defined their time since Bill’s term and office with courting wealthy and corporate donors indiscriminately. Corporate donors that traditionally supported Republican and conservative organizations—like Exxon Mobil, Duke Energy, Citi Bank, and other companies from around the world—poured millions of dollars into the Clinton Foundation. Simultaneously, corporations, billionaires, and millionaires who already preferred Democratic candidates increased their investments into the Democratic Party. Read more.

US: Washington not seeking President Assad's ouster

Washington has made an apparent U-turn on its long-held policy regarding Syria with the US Secretary of State saying the fate of President Bashar al-Assad is up to the Syrians

Tillerson made the remarks in a joint press conference with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Chavush-oglu in Ankara. His remarks were later echoed by the US ambassador to the United Nations.

Nikki Haley said that Washington was no longer focused on removing the Syrian president from power. She said the White House would instead make efforts to push for a political solution to the six-year conflict in the war-ravaged country.

The comments come as the administration of former US president Obama had made any resolution of the Syria crisis conditional on President Assad’s stepping down.

"Russia could use Iran base for Anti-terror flights"

Iran says Russia could use its airspace and military bases for anti-terrorist operations in Syria.

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif says Tehran will consider the possibility of Russian warplanes flying over to Syria via Iran on a case by case basis. Zarif made the remarks ahead of President Hassan Rouhani’s meeting with his Russian counterpart in Moscow on Tuesday.

Russian bombers used a central Iranian airfield to carry out anti-Daesh airstrikes in Syria last year. The warplanes later left Iran after Moscow announced that the deployment had achieved its goals. Since then, Iran has said on several occasions that the deployment was temporary, but could be resumed whenever needed.

UK report: ‘Anecdotal’ evidence of Gulen role in Turkey coup attempt

While there is “anecdotal and circumstantial” evidence that individual members of the Gulen movement were involved in a failed coup attempt in Turkey last year, hard proof was difficult to find, according to a UK parliamentary report.

Since the July 15 coup attempt, Turkey has accused Pennsylvania-based Fethullah Gulen of being behind a push to overthrow President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The inquiry by the Foreign Affairs Committee also points out opportunities in the UK’s growing relationship with Turkey. Al Jazeera’s Renee Odeh reports.

The Syrian government has accused Turkish, Saudi and Qatari spy agencies of being responsible for the recent escalation of terrorist attacks near the capital Damascus.

Damascus has previously expressed regret over what it described as the UN’s failure to condemn terrorist attacks across the war-torn country.

Israel's high court rules to restore residency rights of East Jerusalem Palestinian

In a precedent-setting ruling, Israel's High Court has ordered the Ministry of Interior to restore residency rights to a Palestinian man born in East Jerusalem

The ruling changes de facto ministry policy of revoking residency from Palestinians born in the city if they have been out of the city for more than seven years. The judgement could help protect Palestinian residency rights in occupied East Jerusalem.

Dutch begin voting in key general elections

People in the Netherlands are casting ballots in general elections to choose members of the House of Representatives

Final polls on Tuesday put the liberal party of Prime Minister Mark Rutte in the lead, followed by the party of anti-immigrant politician Geert Wilders. The far-right leader is seen as a divisive figure due to his anti-immigration and anti-EU stance.

Analysts say even if Wilders wins in the election, the Netherlands would have a divided parliament. At the same time, the Dutch vote is seen as a test for upcoming polls elsewhere in Europe where anti-establishment sentiments have seen a rise in recent months.
