Ukraine slams German-Russia gas pipeline

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has urged Germany to abandon plans to build a second pipeline to bring gas from Russia.

Ukrainian president alleged that the pipeline would enable a "blockade" against his country. Poroshenko described the Nord Stream-2 project as a political bribe for loyalty to Russia. He charged that the pipeline is not justified economically. The pipeline would double the amount of Russian gas arriving in Germany via the Baltic Sea.

The Nord Stream-2 pipeline will be operational by late 2019. Kiev has refused to pay for gas imports from Russia, forcing Moscow to cut off gas flow to Ukraine.
